Three imposing terraces on a major route into Reading should be given new life, with specialist input from Asset Heritage. The listed Georgian and Regency buildings have been vacant since the university left them ten years ago and their condition has suffered as a result. New proposals will return the terraces, originally made up of houses, to residential use, and their appearance and setting will be greatly improved. Historic fabric which has been lost or damaged by damp and rot will be repaired or replaced, and the buildings’ performance upgraded.
As the scheme was designed, Asset gave advice on the historic development of the buildings, what was special about them, and the impact of different options. The heritage report, which supported the planning and listed building consent applications, provided the heritage information and justification required by the NPPF.
